“The ready-made roof window elements from HP Gasser AG also prove their worth in conversions.” This is the conclusion of Stefan Hintermann, managing director of the timber construction and roofing company Hintermann & Ruffini SA from Avegno. Hintermann’s company recently put this to the test as part of an attic renovation project for a house over 100 years old in the center of Locarno. A total of seven roof windows had to be replaced. But what is more efficient? The conventional installation or the installation of prefabricated elements? The entrepreneur from Ticino opted for the element solution from HP Gasser AG. Stefan Hintermann explains: “The additional cost of taking measurements on site and determining the details in advance is low, especially since there is no way to avoid this preliminary work anyway if you take a serious approach.” The quick installation of the prefabricated elements more than compensated for this. The Ticino native also praises the roof window specialists from Lunger: “Everything fit exactly and worked as agreed, from the consultation and work preparation to the delivery and installation.

Glazing installed at ground level is ideally suited to illuminate rooms below with daylight. The requirements for such glazing are high. According to the standard, the glass must be designed to be walkable, which results in a corresponding glass structure. In the case of the element recently installed in Zermatt, the glass pane measures 2 x 3 meters. The heavyweight weighs a full 1.7 tons.

Special attention was paid to the waterproofing. Thanks to the system we developed specifically for walk-on glazing, the sealing level is protected under the glass. The visibly sealed joint between the glass and the metal frame is additionally drained. This guarantees a tight construction with adequate durability. A solid solution, which, by the way, was co-designed by the client, and does justice to the unique view of the Matterhorn.

The parking deck of the Migros-Wynecenter in Buchs is currently getting a new roof over its head. After 32 years, the 4,800 square meter membrane surface from Sarna-Tent – the “predecessor company” of HP Gasser AG Membranbau – has done its job and will now be completely renewed within about three weeks. After the analog plans in the company archives had been viewed, compared with the constructions on site and then digitized, all the work now has to be carried out during ongoing park operations – a logistical challenge! Over the next few days, a total of 22 arched membrane panels with a length of up to 48 meters will be dismantled and covered with new fabrications. This will hopefully keep Wynecenter customers, their purchases and their cars dry for decades to come.
